Time away from work can be extremely helpful for maintaining a good work-life balance. Kuku FM encourages everyone to take time off when needed, and ensure that your colleagues do the same.

A great example of taking time off is someone taking a day to do some bank work. Vacations don't have to be trips to exotic places, but instead could be taking some time for oneself at home. We don't frown on people taking time off, but rather encourage people to take care of themselves and others by having some time away. If you notice that your co-worker is working long hours over a sustained period, you may want to let them know about the time off policy.

While working from home, time off might not seem as straightforward, but it is necessary all the same. We encourage teams to take time off and work with colleagues to plan for leave periods synchronised for the entire team, so that they can use the time to recharge energy.

Types of Time Off

  1. Paid Time Off
  2. Menstrual Leave / Period Leave
  3. Parental Leave
  4. Bereavement Leave
  5. Very Sick Leave

πŸ›‹οΈ Paid Time Off

You can take up to 21 days of paid leaves β€” think holidays, feeling under the weather, burnt out, etc. Apart from this, we’re also closed for public holidays

πŸ’†πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Period Leave

Kuku FM offers paid menstrual leave for anyone who needs it, no questions asked. It goes without saying, this is additional to the annual leave. More details, and a hat-tip to Nilenso from whom we have stolen this policy, the rationale and the explanation, wholesale.

πŸ‘ΆπŸ» Parental Leave

When you welcome a new child (birthed or adopted), Kuku FM encourages all full-time employees, regardless of gender or sexual identity to take up to 26 weeks of leave for new mothers and up to 2 weeks leave as a father at 100% paid salary.

Employees should give the rest of the team as much notice as possible before they take new parent leave, though there is no requirement for how far in advance the notification needs to be given. Parenthood can be unexpected and sensitive, but the more that a team can anticipate the absence, the easier it will be to handle.
